Stichting Urco geeft de voorkeur aan vernieuwende en kansrijke initiatieven die impact maken in hun directe omgeving. Een uniek project bevat de onderstaande aspecten: Innovatief – Het project is vernieuwend.Pionieren – Het project gaat in op een nog onbenutte kans. Het is vernieuwend en mogelijk zijn er nog geen soortgelijke projecten. Resultaat – De mogelijke geplande en gerealiseerde resultaten dragen bij aan de doelstelling van het project.Impact – Wat is de impact van het project op mensen en de omgeving?Omgeving – Welke invloed heeft het project op de omgeving, zijn er soortgelijke projecten en waarom wel of niet. Is er samenwerking met anderen? Doelgroep – Op welke mensen of groepen richt het project zich en zijn er nog anderen die zich richten op dezelfde doelgroep?

Discipelschap: het project richt zich op navolging van Jezus

Stichting Urco wil projecten ondersteunen die mensen begeleiden bij het verdiepen van hun christelijk geloof en dit praktisch maken in hun dagelijks leven.Het project stimuleert een leven gericht op Jezus – Het project heeft een holistische aanpak.Luisteren naar Hem – Jezus volgen staat centraal, het laat zien wat discipelschap inhoudt.Het project is gebaseerd op een Evangelisch Bijbelse Theologie.Missionaire vormgeving – Het project geeft handvatten om zelf ook actief te getuigen van het geloof in de directe omgeving?

Koninkrijk: Het project richt zich op de wereldwijde groei van Gods Koninkrijk?

Stichting Urco wil projecten steunen met een focus op de wereldwijde groei van Gods Koninkrijk, met bijzondere aandacht voor onbereikte groepen en de belangrijke rol van migratie in hedendaagse zending. Zending en Evangelisatie – Het project richt zich op de verspreiding van het evangelie. Onbereikte groepen – Het project richt zich op onbereikte en ongeïnteresseerde groepen, met name uit het ’10/40-venster’. Diaspora en migranten – Heeft het project aandacht voor de behoeften en kansen binnen diaspora- en migrantengemeenschappen. Het project houdt rekening met de unieke culturele en sociale context van de doelgroep. Kerkplanting – Het project richt zich op het bereiken van geheel nieuwe gebieden met weinig of geen bestaande christelijke aanwezigheid. Er worden nieuwe geloofsgemeenschappen opgericht op plaatsen waar nog geen bestaande kerk is. Investering – Er is een langdurige investering, waarbij aandacht is voor potentiële groei en toenemend resultaat. Vermenigvuldiging – Het project gaat over het maken van discipelen die op hun beurt weer discipelen maken.

Sociaal-economisch: heeft men minder kansen?

Stichting Urco ondersteunt bij voorkeur projecten die gericht zijn op en ondersteund worden door mensen in kwetsbare posities, zoals vrouwen of mensen met een beperking.Het project richt zich op mensen met beperkte kansen en wordt bij voorkeur ook uitgevoerd door mensen in kwetsbare posities of met beperkte kansen.Kwetsbare regio’s – Dit kan per context verschillen, maar in veel regio’s bevinden vrouwen, vluchtelingen, migranten en mensen met een beperking zich vaak in een kwetsbaardere positie.

Gunfactor: roept het geheel een positief beeld/gevoel op?

Er wordt gelet op de algemene indruk van het project en de persoon of organisatie die het uitvoert, is er goed bestuur en hoe is de werkwijze?De aanvraag heeft een duidelijk en compleet projectvoorstel met daarbij behorende begroting.

Financial support for projects

Since 1958, Urco Foundation has supported projects worldwide with a focus on discipleship and the growth of God's Kingdom. In practice, this often involves pioneering and innovative projects with impact that could use that extra boost.

Urco Foundation is committed to providing clarity on which projects are eligible for support and which are not. Annually, Urco Foundation donates approximately €500,000 to projects across the globe, based on transparent criteria. These guidelines have been developed to assess the numerous applications that must be submitted by September 1st each year. Unfortunately, not all applications can be granted. Applications may be rejected or the awarded amounts may be lower than requested.

The submitted applications will be evaluated by regional committees based on the criteria outlined below to determine whether they align sufficiently with Urco Foundation’s objectives. The six regional committees consist of individuals appointed by the board based on their expertise and experience with a particular region. The projects selected by the regional committees are assessed and then submitted to the board for formal approval.

Our story

The foundation was established in 1958 by Guus Kessler III, grandson of one of the founders of Royal Dutch Shell. Guus was destined to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and was expected to hold a high position at Shell. However, his life took a different turn when he came to faith.

Criteria

Project applications will be evaluated based on the criteria outlined below. Additionally, the overall impression of the project and the person or organization carrying it out will be considered, including the competence of the management and the approach.

Uniqueness: How exceptional is it?

Preference is given to innovative and promising initiatives that make an impact in their immediate environment. A unique project is characterized by the following aspects:

Innovative – The project is groundbreaking
Pioneering – What opportunities does the project take advantage of?
Results – What results are planned and achieved?
Impact – How does the project create impact and on whom?
Surroundings – What is the context of the project? Are there similar projects, and is there collaboration with them?
Target audience – Which target audience is the project aimed at and why?

Discipleship: Does it relate to following Jesus?

It is important to Urco Foundation that projects guide people in deepening their Christian faith and applying it practically in their daily lives.

The project encourages a life centered on Jesus – The project takes a holistic approach.
Listening to Him – Following Jesus is central, showing what discipleship means.
The project is based on an Evangelical Biblical Theology.
Missionary framework – The project provides tools to actively witness faith in the surroundings.

Kingdom: Does the project focus on the worldwide growth of God's Kingdom?

Urco Foundation aims to support projects with a focus on the worldwide growth of God's Kingdom, with special attention to unreached groups and the significant role of migration in contemporary missions.

Mission and Evangelism – The project focuses on spreading the gospel.
Unreached groups – The project focuses on unreached and groups not yet familiar with the gospel, particularly from the ’10/40 window’.
Diaspora and migrants – Does the project address the needs and opportunities within diaspora and migrant communities? The project takes into account the unique cultural and social context of the target group.
Church planting – The project focuses on reaching entirely new areas with little or no existing Christian presence. New faith communities are established in places where there is no existing church.
Investment – There is a long-term investment, with attention to potential growth and increasing results.
Multiplication – The project involves making disciples who, in turn, will make more disciples.

Socio-economic: Does the target group have fewer opportunities?

At Urco Foundation, we prefer to support projects that are focused on and supported by people in vulnerable positions, such as women or individuals with disabilities.

The project focuses on people with limited opportunities and is preferably also carried out by people in vulnerable positions or with limited opportunities.
Vulnerable Regions – This can vary by context, but in many regions, women, refugees, migrants, and people with disabilities often find themselves in more vulnerable positions.

Likeability: Does the overall impression evoke a positive image/feeling?

Urco looks at the general impression of the project and the person or organization implementing it. How is the organizational governance and the approach? The involvement of individuals contributes to a positive outcome.
The application has a clear and complete project proposal with accompanying budget.

About the application process

Assessment and advice

The evaluation is conducted by regional committees, which are appointed by the board based on their expertise and experience in specific geographical regions. These committees provide advice to the board based on their assessment according to Urco Foundation’s criteria. Ultimately, the board makes the decision on potential grant awards based on this advice.

The maximum amount that can be requested is €25,000. Requests exceeding €25,000 will not be considered.

Who can apply?

The foundation supports both individuals and organizations involved in Christian ministry, evangelism, and missional formation. However, the Urco Foundation contribution must be deposited into the bank account of an organization.
Urco Foundation supports the publishing and distribution of evangelistic literature and assists those engaged in such work.
Organizations that advance the gospel by training church members, pastors, and lay leaders to make missional disciples can also submit an application.

Which projects do we not support?

Scholarships or sponsorships for individual students;
Buildings, diaconal projects, and PhD research are not sponsored;
Permanent dependency on Urco Foundation should be avoided.
